New year, new smartphones

As the new year begins, brace yourself for exciting handsets. We saw great smartphones in 2021 but 2022 could even be better with expected changes on iPhone 14 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, foldable handsets, and many more. Great advancements in chipset technology, camera lens design, and battery technology are some of the factors encouraging the development of powerful phones. In this article, we have highlighted some of the most interesting devices expected in a few months and later this year.

1. iPhone 14

iPhone 14 is the most anticipated smartphone in 2022 and it will be available in a variety of models. Both iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are expected to have a punch-hole camera design – it is no surprise iPhone 14 has received tremendous hype. There might be an iPhone 14 Max, a 6.7-inch screen device in place of the iPhone 14 mini.

Design leaks suggest the new models will have 48MP camera sensors, an upgrade from the current 12MP. iPhone 14 will have an enormous processing power to keep up with increased processing demands.

2. Samsung Galaxy S22

The Samsung Galaxy S22 will be a key launch for the smartphone market and will probably be available by February 8. The Samsung Galaxy S22 and Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus will have the same screen and design as the Samsung Galaxy S21 models but they will have next-generation chipsets. Following production issues with Samsung’s Exynos, Samsung Galaxy S22 will be equipped with Snapdragon processors.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra could be quite different from other Samsung Galaxy S22 siblings in terms of design. The design leans towards the Galaxy Note series with an S Pen stylus. In fact, the S22 might come as Galaxy S22 Note.

3. OnePlus 10

While the OnePlus 9T is never happening, we are looking forward to the launch of the OnePlus 10. The One Plus 10 could have changes in camera module design and 6.7-inch QHD+ 120Hz screen and camera capabilities similar to the OnePlus 9 as per recent design leaks. Also, rumors indicate that the battery could be boosted with fast a charging speed of 80W. The phone will have a new operating system and an advanced Snapdragon 8 generation processor. We will get the OnePlus 10 between January and February if the leaks are to be believed.

4. Google Pixel 7

We don’t have substantial details about the Google Pixel 7 now, but the device is on its way. Notably, Google made several changes to the Pixel 6 models, and therefore the Pixel 7 may not have huge changes. Initial leaks suggest the Google Pixel 7 could have the Google Tensor processor and camera capabilities similar to the predecessor. You might have to wait for Pixel 7 until October 2022.

5. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4

For Samsung lovers, the Galaxy S22 is not the only Samsung handset to expect in 2022 as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is on its way and reports indicate it could be the best foldable smartphone in the market. The phone is expected to have a lighter and a more dust and water resistance design as compared to the precursor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 will have a higher capacity battery and improved under-display cameras and similar snappers to the Samsung Galaxy S22. We will see this phone between August and September this year.

6. Sony Xperia 1 IV

Sony Xperia 1 IV will land early this year –  probably April and will have better features than the Sony Xperia 1 III, Sony’s best phone for quite some time. Design leaks point to a 50MP camera and a homemade sensor for the front camera. In any case, the Sony Xperia 1 IV will have a great camera as Sony tends to put much effort into the camera. The screen will perhaps have a 4K resolution.

7. Huawei P50

Huawei P50 models have already been announced although they are initially only available in China, so we wait for a global launch. The wait is worth it as reports indicate that the Huawei P50 Pro has great features including a 6.6-inch 1228 x 2700 OLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 888 chipset, 12 GB of RAM, and a 4-lens camera with a 50 MP main sensor, 64M telephoto, a 13MP ultra-wide and a 40MP monochrome camera. Moreover, the phone has a 4360mAh battery and 66W fast charging technology. Notwithstanding, the phone runs HarmonyOS 2 instead of Android following the ban on Huawei on using Google products.

8. iPhone SE 3

Even though iPhone 14 series is the most anticipated Apple smartphone, the tech giant could launch iPhone SE 3 to succeed the iPhone SE which was launched in 2020. Design leaks show that the phone will support 5G, but besides that, it will have similar designs to iPhone SE.

9. Google Pixel Fold

The Google Pixel Fold has been anticipated for years and it is likely to land this year. The phone could have a 7.6-inch foldable OLED screen and a Tensor chipset. The Google Pixel Fold could be among the few foldable phones to excite the market.

10. Nokia 10

We have been hearing about the Nokia 9 predecessor for so long that the phone has experienced drastic changes in names. Originally Nokia was expected to launch Nokia 9.1 which later changed to Nokia 9.2, 9.3, and finally Nokia 10. Leaks suggest an in-screen front camera, a sapphire display glass, a 5-lens camera with a 200MP main sensor, a 6000mAh, 144HZ screen refresh rate, and an advanced Snapdragon chipset.

Conclusion

I bet you’re excited about these upcoming smartphones especially the foldables. With all these new devices landing in 2022, we will have plenty of excellent choices to choose from. Whether you wish for more storage, high processing speed, high camera quality, or better screen resolution, 2022 is for you. Many devices will have 5G technology and therefore the quality of processes like gaming, augmented reality and video streaming will improve immensely.
